Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area (former Denison Property)

The City of Saugatuck is working with the Land Conservancy of West Michigan, The Nature Conservancy, and other local partners to acquire the 171-acre dune property on Lake Michigan next to Oval Beach and Mt. Baldhead City Parks, just south of the Kalamazoo River channel.

Known formerly as the “South Denison” property, this peninsula of land would be owned and managed by the City as the “Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area” and open to the public for non-motorized recreation. It is an extraordinary property that is vital to the scenic and natural dune landscape around Saugatuck and Douglas.

Please see the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area information sheet for additional information.

Help Expand Meinert County Park

Meinert County Park Expansion Information Sheet

On December 3rd the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) approved a $428,300grant which gave a huge boost to the campaign to expand Muskegon County’s Meinert Park. The proposed 95-acre addition to Meinert County Park would more than double the size of this beautiful park along the Lake Michigan’s shoreline and preserve critical forested dune habitat.  Please see the press release for full details.

The total project cost expected to add the 95 natural acres to Meinert Park is approximately $600,000. The $428,300 MNRTF grant, a $20,000 grant from the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, and the willingness of the current landowners to donate some of the value of the property gives the campaign a great start. In order to successfully complete the project, however, the Land Conservancy of West Michigan and Muskegon County must raise the remaining funds from the community.  To make a donation online, please visit the Membership page.  Be sure you enter "Meinert Park" under notes.
