Details
Come celebrate Earth Day with a walk through beautiful Tallmadge Woods! We will meet at the Mt. Baldhead City Park parking area and walk up Perry Street to a footpath through the wooded dunes at the heart of this 110-acre conservation easement property. At the end of the trail is a view over the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area and Lake Michigan that will put you in a Thank-Goodness-for-Earth-Day kind of mood!
Please dress for the weather – if there is still snow on the ground the pathway can get a little slippery. A public restroom is available in downtown Saugatuck or at the I-196 rest area just north of the Saugatuck exit.
Driving directions from the south side of Holland: Take I-196 south to exit 41 (Blue Star Hwy/Saugatuck). Turn right and go west on Blue Star Highway. Follow Blue Star for 3.5 miles, going over the Kalamazoo River bridge to the stoplight. Turn right and head west on Center Street for 0.3 miles. At the 4-way stop sign, turn right and go north on Ferry Street. After0.5 miles, Ferry Street turns into Park Street, but continue heading north for another 0.8 miles, when you will reach the Mt. Baldhead City Park parking lot. (Next to the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society museum.)
